APP to Develop 3D-Printed Torch Igniter for ESA Propulsion Programme

On 3–4 April 2025, during ESA’s Future Space Transportation Spring Session, APP was selected under the FIRST! Propulsion programme to develop a 3D-printed torch igniter for future European liquid rocket engines. Supported by ArianeGroup, APP will apply additive manufacturing to create a lightweight, reliable igniter capable of multiple starts, reducing complexity and cost. The initiative, part of ESA’s effort to accelerate propulsion innovation, builds on Europe’s strong heritage in advanced engine technology. This marks an important step toward more sustainable and competitive space transportation.
